Keyboard Shortcuts

JuryBinder includes keyboard shortcuts for the actions you reach for most often during voir dire. Press ++question++ at any time (while focus is outside a text field) to open a quick-reference card inside the app.

Global shortcuts

These shortcuts work from any view.

Shortcut Action
++ctrl+s++ / ++cmd+s++ Save immediately. Bypasses the 2-second auto-save debounce — useful right before a recess or handoff.
++alt+1++ through ++alt+7++ (Windows) / ++opt+1++ through ++opt+7++ (Mac) Switch to a view by number: 1 Overview · 2 Responses · 3 Analytics · 4 Jurors · 5 Oral Voir Dire · 6 Auto-Flags · 7 Selection
++alt+p++ (Windows) / ++opt+p++ (Mac) Toggle Privacy Mode. Instantly hides notes, flags, and favorability ratings.
++ctrl+z++ / ++cmd+z++ Undo the last action.
++ctrl+y++ / ++cmd+shift+z++ Redo the last undone action.
++question++ Open / close the keyboard shortcuts reference card.
++escape++ Close any open modal or dialog.
++tab++ (first press) Reveal the Skip to main content link, which jumps past the header / nav straight into the current view.

The view tabs in the header (Overview · Responses · Jurors · Oral Voir Dire · Selection) are a standard tablist — focus one and use:

Shortcut Action
++arrow-left++ / ++arrow-right++ Move to the previous / next view, wrapping at the edges.
++home++ Jump to the first view.
++end++ Jump to the last view.

Only the active tab is a Tab stop — so Tabbing past the tablist takes you into the view content, not through every tab one by one.

Cmd/Ctrl+S works even while typing

++ctrl+s++ / ++cmd+s++ intercepts the browser's default Save Page behavior and triggers a JuryBinder save instead. It fires even when focus is inside a notes field, so you can save without breaking your typing flow.

Responses view shortcuts

These shortcuts are active only when the Responses tab is open.

Shortcut Action
++f++ Toggle Flagged Only filter — show only questions with at least one flag across the panel
++escape++ Close the open note / flag popover

Jurors view shortcuts

These shortcuts are active only when the Jurors tab is open and focus is outside a text field (for example, after finishing a note and clicking away).

Shortcut Action
++arrow-left++ / ++arrow-right++ Previous / next juror — skips jurors hidden by the current filter
++a++ Toggle Active-only filter. When on, hides qualified and dismissed jurors so you see only undecided jurors. Arrow navigation respects this filter.
++alt+arrow-up++ / ++opt+arrow-up++ Toggle Favorable rating (press again to return to Neutral)
++alt+arrow-down++ / ++opt+arrow-down++ Toggle Unfavorable rating (press again to return to Neutral)
++f++ Toggle Flagged Only filter — show only flagged questions, or show all
++n++ Focus the notes field — cursor lands at the end of any existing text; press ++escape++ to save and exit
++q++ Toggle Qualify / Unqualify (only active jurors)
++d++ Dismiss the current juror for cause (only active or qualified jurors)
++r++ Restore a dismissed or struck juror back to Active

Selection view shortcuts

These shortcuts are active only when the Selection tab is open. First expand a juror row by clicking it or pressing ++arrow-right++, then use the shortcuts below.

Shortcut Action
++arrow-left++ / ++arrow-right++ Previous / next qualified juror — collapses current, opens adjacent
++d++ Defense peremptory strike on the expanded juror
++p++ Prosecution / Plaintiff peremptory strike on the expanded juror
++s++ Seat the expanded juror on the jury
++escape++ Collapse the expanded juror panel

After each action the view automatically advances to the next juror so you can work through the Qualified Pool entirely from the keyboard.

Strike for cause moved to Oral Voir Dire

The ++c++ shortcut on Selection is gone. Strike-for-cause is recorded on the Oral Voir Dire workbench as the judge rules, before any juror reaches Selection.

Tips for courtroom use

Alt+P is your privacy shortcut. If opposing counsel or the judge approaches your table unexpectedly, a quick ++alt+p++ hides all your work product in under a second. Press it again when they leave and everything is restored — no data is deleted.

Arrow keys replace the mouse for juror navigation. During oral voir dire, keeping your hands on the keyboard lets you move between jurors with ++arrow-left++ / ++arrow-right++, rate favorability with ++alt+arrow-up++ / ++alt+arrow-down++ (++opt++ on Mac), and jump straight into the notes field with ++n++ — all without reaching for a trackpad.

Save before every recess. Although JuryBinder auto-saves every two seconds, pressing ++ctrl+s++ / ++cmd+s++ before you close a lid or hand off a device guarantees the latest state is written to disk immediately.
